AGNIGARH

'Agni' meaning fire and 'Garh' meaning a fortress or wall which when combined together forms the word Agnigarh. This is a hillock located in the city of Tezpur, Assam. Mythological references refer to the fortress being built by Banasura to keep Usha in isolation. Many sculptures built in Agnigarh depicts the war between Krishna and Shiva. There are also sculptures depicting the Usha Aniruddha wedding. At the backdrop, one can have a view of the mighty Brahmaputra river considered the lifeline of Assam. Climbing one tall viewing platform one also gets to see the beautiful view of the Tezpur town and the Kalia Bhomura bridge across the river Brahmaputra.
