LIVING LIFE WITH A PURPOSE

There are times in life when we feel that we are lost....like being trapped in a desert.Everywhere we see we find nothing but only emptiness. This happens as life rolls by.Our inability to take certain decisions, understand ourselves and our inner conflicts disturbs our state of mind.It lingers and we try battling our own negativities each day of our life. It is very essential that we understand the purpose of our existence.Humans are created with limitless possibilities.Often do we fall in danger due to our inner urges, drives and motives. We have to understand that extrinsic motivation can only inspire us.Scaffolding can help us to understand our weakness but unless and until we get into the process of knowing ourselves it works less. I recently watched  a movie which may be most of you have watched. It is Peaceful Warrior. The movie speaks so much about life. One of my friend recommended it to me.The movie is adapted from Way of the Peaceful Warrior. It is about Dan a college stud...

SMILE

I   remember this story of a little girl I listened to as a child. We had this practice where our headmistress at school used to share stories every morning in the assembly. I remember noting down some of them. A little girl once went out with her mama to travel around. She smiled at every person she met on her way. At the end of the day, her mother asked, 'why should you be smiling at every other person? She said, 'Mama today was my best day with you. I met every people only once. The only thing that I can give them is my smile and nothing else. Often in times of strife, we forget to smile. There is this smiling therapy which is psychologically very important. When we smile we don't think about anything else. It is very essential that we smile. Life is definitely not a bed of roses. It can be a  roller coaster ride at times but if we chose to live with grace and dignity then it will be enriching and fulfilling. There are situations in our life which are definately beyond ...

TORAR DESHOR HADHU

Image
I   have grown up listening to stories. I remember asking mama to buy me a Panchatantra book to study during our half-yearly break. I have read several stories like burhi aair xadhu written by Raharaj Laxminath Bezbaruah. There are many benefits to story reading your vocabulary increases. You have a good hold of the sentences that you use when talking. It increases your creativity and your imagination power. Thus it is imperative that we let our small ones develop this habit of listening to stories from a small age. Even today when I visit a school I find out some time to be all by myself to surf through the books. I remember visiting a demonstration multipurpose school where the headmaster shared with us about the benefits of developing the habit of reading. The school has quite a  large collection of good books Paraja,Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I went to the school to interact with the Headmaster and then I ended up lending in this beautiful place. What  I feel is tha...

BARESOHORIA BHAONA

Image
I have grown up watching these bhaonas. There were ocassions like Janmastami the celebration of Krishna's birthday, Shivaratri where I remember accompanying my grandparents to these bhaonas being organized in the community place of worship. There is this famous bhaona being organised at the interval of a few years which I wanted to be a part of. When one of my classmate came up with this idea I decided to accompany her. She being a local it was much help to us. We stayed at her home. When we went to the bhaona  I was amazed to see people flocking. When I reached there I saw the beautiful arrangements being made around. We walked for some time before we reached. I saw people seating around and the artist walking to perform their role. This is one of the most beautiful sight from bhaona I saw at Jamugurihat in Assam. I wanted to stay for some more time but due to the weather, we had to return. There was heavy downpour after we reached home. I am thankful to my friend for makin...

RAAS

Krishna is divine. He is omnipresent. I have grown up reading about him. It was my father who first introduced me to the teachings of Bhagavat Gita. I remember being in my 10th class when we use to have prayers where father invited people to our home to discuss upon this great religious scripture. As the years rolled by I got to learn much about this character called Krishna.Spirituality is a journey. There is a difference between being religious and spiritual.I have aleways had this belief in the immense power of prayers. This lockdown period was not easy. There was a lot of emotional turmoil. Mama used to take me to the akhanda bhagavat path celebrations where I got to listen to the recitations of Bhagavat. It gives me immense satisfaction to see little girls dressed in Mekhala Sadar and accompanying their mother to the Naamghar. Being grown up in a village I had the advantage of being part of these events. I found it quite fancy to get decked up in mekhala chadar and take a chel...

THE MAGIC OF THE LOST TEMPLE

Image
O f the several books written by Sudha Murty, this is something that is one of my personal favorites. I was irritated at one point in time on the number of visits that I had to make to the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences. There was deep pain within. The continuous hammering of my teeth, the bloodstains and that heart-wrenching pain, the tears, and the long way from our institute to Patia. I am thankful to my friends Annie, Nibi, and Suman for this. They were patient. What more, Nibi even took complete care of me, preparing khichdi. She's a great cook I must say having great cooking skills. Whenever I feel like I need a break I generally visit the library and pick up a book that suits my mood and cravings. Sometimes it's the Gitanjali, at other times Jagannath Mohanty's book of poems. Then came this book through online shopping. One fine day I decided to open it and then I  couldn't stop unless it was over fully. It is the story of a little girl and her stay with...
